
Gas prices in Hawaii remained relatively stable ahead of the busy Memorial Day holiday weekend, with most areas of the state seeing a slight decline and well below what they were a year ago.
In Kahului, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas was $4.84 as of Thursday, one cent lower than last week and 72 cents lower than a year ago, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch. Lihue continues to have the highest average price at $5.24, which is the same as last week and 52 cents lower than a year ago.
In Hilo, the average price of $4.78 is two cents lower than last week and 68 cents lower than a year ago, while in Honolulu the average price of $4.65 is three cents lower than the previous week and 64 cents lower than a year ago.
The average price for Hawaii was $4.76 as of Thursday, two cents lower than last week and still above the average national price of $3.57, which is three cents higher than the week before.
